In high school, the person who set the curve on a test was frequently the most-hated member of class. He or she was the overachiever, the suck-up, the mega-nerd who pushed the rest of us back a few precious points. Worst of all, this person would never let you copy his or her answers.
But in Kansas City, new car owners are paying attention to trend-setters like Hyundai Motor Co., which has begun releasing figures on overall fuel economy achieved by its cars and light trucks. According to U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy guidelines, Hyundai vehicles reached an average rate of 34.7 miles per gallon in January.
