There once was a time when if you mentioned “Hyundai” in a car discussion at a Honda or Ford area Kansas City new car dealer, those around you might smirk as though in a best pizza discussion you had brought up Sbarro. This smirking reaction might not have been grossly inappropriate at the time. Remember, folks in and around Kansas City? Used Hyundai Sonatas were a dime a dozen…people couldn’t give them away and new ones didn’t have a lot of appeal, either. Hyundai has only been manufacturing powertrains from its own design for about twenty years now, so these early vehicles had no legs to stand on, so to speak. Attention all potential car buyers, US News has announced the winners of their 2010 Best Cars for the Money awards and the Kansas City Hyundai 2010 lineup topped the list in two categories. The Hyundai Elantra won Best Compact Car for the Money and the Hyundai Genesis was rated the Best Upscale Sedan for the Money. The awards, which are based on U.S. News’ automotive rankings and estimated five-year cost of ownership from IntelliChoice, “highlight cars, trucks and SUVs that will not only please their owners the day they drive off the dealer lot, but will keep them – and their wallets – happy for years to come.”
